Before starting our VyprVPN review we would the users to visit what is a VPN guide who have no or little knowledge about VPNs.

VyprVPN’s Logging Policy Review

Golden Frog’s VyprVPN has a rich and active history of fighting for the privacy rights of users on the internet and for the freedom of the web for everyone.

It is also very vocal when it comes to the internet security because of the fact that internet is not a safe place, neither it is very private, which is tools like VPNs have gotten this popular among the users around the globe.

With this rich history of fighting for the privacy of the users on web, one can easily assume that VyprVPN do have a strict no-log policy where they do not track, keep or distribute any kind of users’ logs at all.

However, it is not the case as Golden Frog’s VyprVPN does keep the connection or session logs. You must be as shocked as we were, if it is news to you.

According to the Privacy Policy of Golden Frog’s VyprVPN, they keep the source IP, the VyprVPN IP, and the total number of data in bytes used by the user along with the, connection starting and ending time.

These are the session logs that VyprVPN keeps for 30 days and here’s the explanation why they keep these logs:

“We retain VyprVPN session data for 30 days to use with billing issues, troubleshooting, service offering evaluation, TOS issues, AUP issues, and for handling crimes performed over the service.”

However, VyprVPN does not log any of the users’ activities including content or traffic. Which means that the privacy of the users is completely intact in terms of what they do on the internet.

However, in the instances of any illegal activities, like we have seen with couple other VPN services, the connection logs can trace the user back when requested by the authorities.

So now that the controversial logging policy of VyprVPN has been discussed, we will move to the evaluation of the service in our VyprVPN review, starting from the features.

VyprVPN Features Review

VyprVPN is regarded as one of the best VPN providers who have a great set of features packed for the users. So, we are going to look into all the features in our VyprVPN review and see if these really are that important and functional.

Own VPN Servers

VyprVPN has more than 700 servers around the globe which are completely owned by Golden Frog’s VyprVPN.

There are no third parties involved which makes it one of the very few service providers who owns the whole network of servers they offer to their users.

It reduces the risk of data theft or security breaches and ensures end to end privacy for the users. From hardware to code and everything in the network is owned, operated and managed by VyprVPN which really is impressive.

VyprVPN Speed Test: Above Average Speed

Owning the network of servers and providing incredible speeds are two different things. Fortunate for users that VyprVPN is one of those services which provide above average speed which is essentially important for streaming users.

The users certainly will experience a slight dip in their download speeds and slight higher ping after connecting the VPN, but that is almost inevitable.

Still, the streaming on YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and other services would be smooth without any interruptions and connection issues. Trust us, it is a blessing!

Speed test without VPN:

Chameleon™ technology

VyprVPN has developed a proprietary VPN technology dubbed as Chameleon. This technology scrambles the users’ metadata which makes it unrecognizable even in DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) scans, along with keeping the connection fast.

It helps in getting more unblocking power over the web without any risk of privacy or security breach.

VyprDNS – Zero-Knowledge DNS

Golden Frog’s VyprVPN also offers their own zero-knowledge DNS dubbed as VyprDNS. It gives an extra protection to users’ privacy as the VyprVPN users do not rely on their ISP’s or any other third party DNS which may log users’ internet activities and censor websites and web services.

The VyprDNS is exclusive for VyprVPN users and it cannot be utilized separately. It is not the only service provider who offers zero-knowledge DNS but it certainly is one of the very few who do.

24/7 Customer Support

Like many other ace services, VyprVPN too provides round the clock support to all the users so they can get help at any hour on the clock, anywhere around the globe.

The support provided by VyprVPN is satisfactory and the guides for self-help are also well written. Combine these and the overall customer supports becomes really nice.

However, there is one big disadvantage i.e. VyprVPN has a strict no refund policy under any circumstances.

NAT Firewall

Another impressive security feature offered by VyprVPN is NAT Firewall which helps users gain an extra layer of security as it blocks all the unrequested inbound traffic.

Many hackers or bots scans the internet to find an unprotected system or vulnerability to exploit. Blocking the unrequested inbound traffic helps prevent those scans.

The NAT Firewall runs on the VyprVPN’s servers so the users do not have to install any extra software or app at all. There are just a handful of VPN providers who offer NAT firewall with their VPN service.

So these are some of the notable features which we found in our VyprVPN review and no doubt these features are impressive. Now we will move to evaluate the price, protocols, server locations and more below.

VyprVPN Prices Review

VyprVPN offers two different packages, vyprvpn and vyprvpn premium, both having different features except for the basic VPN functions and free apps.

vyprvpn review

Vyprvpn: $9.95/Month or $3.75/Month i.e. $60/Year

Vyprvpn Premium: $12.95/Month or $5.00/Month i.e. $80/Year

The Vyprvpn plan comes with 3 day free trial and only three simultaneous connections with a single account.

However, the premium plan have five simultaneous connections, VyprVPN cloud and Chameleon protocol, along with free 3-day trial. Both the plans does not have any money back guarantees.

Additionally, VyprVPN offer major payment options but there are a few important ones which are missing. As of the time of our VyprVPN review, it accepts payments via PayPal, Credit Cards, and AliPay only.

So, if you are willing to pay via Bitcoin or any other anonymous currency then VyprVPN is not for you.

VyprVPN Protocols Review

VyprVPN offers various VPN protocols which can cover the needs of almost all the users. The offered protocols include OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec, PPTP and Chameleon.

The Chameleon protocol is only available for the premium VPN users, however the basic users can select from any of the three protocols.

VyprVPN does not offer SSTP protocol but their unique addition of Chameleon has got them covered in terms of security.

So, our VyprVPN protocols review suggests that it is a preferable VPN service because the connection is reliable in most of the connections we tested using different protocols.

VyprVPN Servers & Locations Review

As mentioned above, the network of servers that VyprVPN provides is also owned by Golden Frog’s VyprVPN, so there are no third parties involved.

From coding to hardware, maintenance and management of all 700+ servers around the globe is done by VyprVPN. It makes the service more reliable in terms of performance, speed, privacy and security for the users.

Also, the servers are strategically placed in all the continents of the world so the users can connect to any continent without any hassle or limitations.

However, these strategic placements does not guarantee the unblocking of US Netflix. It sometimes works on some servers and does not work the other times.

Also, apparently P2P file sharing is allowed by VyprVPN but it can get users’ accounts blocked in case VyprVPN gets a DMCA notices for copyrights infringement or any other thing.

VyprVPN-Torrenting policy

So, our VyprVPN review so far suggests it to be a great service except for their logging policy, now we will move on towards the review of VyprVPN for OSX, iOS, Windows, and Android apps. Let’s see how good VyprVPN proves to be in that ground!

VyprVPN for Mac Review

VyprVPN claims to be the number one in trusted VPN providers for Mac and it surely does prove it right in terms of usability and performance.

The app is very uniform in terms of UI and it does have a very handy feel because of the tall, slender looks. However, we didn’t find it nicely blending in with other apps on the Mac.

In terms of performance and options, the app for Mac has some switches for faster changes and rest of the options are in the settings.

It has support for all the protocols which is a commendable thing. Also, the Mac app is really user-friendly and easy to use. You do not need to be a tech savvy individual to use the app to its full potential.

Also, the app is supported on OSX 10.10 and higher versions.

The server selection, marking favorites and search in right on your fingertips, which helps users connect to their desired connections as quickly as possible.

In addition, the mac app of VyprVPN fully packed with all the other features which we discussed in our VyprVPN review.

So all in all, we would recommend this for mac users if they can get over the logging policy of VyprVPN discussed earlier in the review.

VyprVPN for iPhone Review

The UI of VyperVPN for iPhone app is less pretty then its mac brother and the reason is of course the difference in platform and device. Still app for mac is functional and easy to use.

However, the iPhone app of VyprVPN does not have a kill switch which is the case with many other iPhone apps by other VPN providers.

Unfortunately, VyprVPN only offers IPsec/IKEv2 protocol for iOS users.

It is a bit strange because of the fact that VyprVPN has invested a lot in their own unique Chameleon protocol, but providing only the support of one protocol which is certainly less safe than OpenVPN and Chameleon is a little odd.

Apart from having only one protocol, it works well on untrusted Wi-Fi networks and the app automatically connects the VPN as soon as you connect the untrusted Wi-Fi.

Also, the app is supported on iOS 9 and higher which more or less covers all the major Apple mobile devices. Overall, the app is neither too impressive nor too bad.

We would recommend it to users but would also inform that there are better options available for iPhone VPNs.

VyprVPN for Windows Review

VyprVPN for Windows client is the most impressive one among all the apps for different platforms. It is because of the jam packed features and good uniformity is app’s functionality across devices.

All the features mentioned in our VyprVPN review can be found in the Windows app by Golden Frog.

This Swiss VPN provider offers the internet kill switch which works like a fail safe for the times or little instances of unwanted disconnections.

Also, it has the automatic server selection option which helps users select the fastest server based on the location of the user.

Additionally, the option of automatic connection when the machine connects an untrusted Wi-Fi is also there to help secure the user even if he or she forgets to turn the VPN on.

The Windows app also has the very golden Chameleon VPN technology which makes the connection safer without hampering speed and gives more unblocking powers to the users.

Also, the app has all the protocols that VyprVPN offers. Overall, the app is impressive in terms of performances, options, features, and even the UI.

It is also easy to use which makes it preferable, if you can ignore the logging policy and torrenting discouragement.

VyprVPN for Android Review

Luckily VyprVPN for Android offers a wider range of VPN protocols than the iOS app. In fact the Android app offers the best protocols of VyprVPN which are OpenVPN and Chameleon.

Chameleon is only for the premium users, but those who have the basic plan can always connect using OpenVPN protocols (160-bit and 256-bit).

In addition, the app also has automatic fastest server selection tool which helps users connect to the best server based on their locations and the traffic on VyprVPN servers.

The option to automatically connect the VPN when the phone connects with untrusted Wi-Fi networks is also integrated in the Android app of VyprVPN.

All in all, the Android app of VyprVPN is better than many other providers, but at the same time it is not the best one out there.

The features, usability and performance makes it a good contender among the top VPN providers.

We can recommend it users who can compromise on logs, P2P and can prefer paying via PayPal, credit card or AliPay, rather than any anonymous crypto currency.

VyprVPN for Router Review

VyprVPN has built an app for routers as well, but the only routers supported by this app is Tomato routers. The router app runs on top of Tomato firmware, so the users need to make sure that the host router is capable of supporting Tomato.

For all the other routers, there are manual instructions by which users can setup VyprVPN on their routers.

The benefit of setting up VPN on router is that the connection is considered as one out of the available simultaneous connection the VPN provider offers.

This way, all the devices connected to the router are secure and private with just using a single connection out of many. So, it is beneficial for the user to keep the whole home secure by setting up VPN on router.

So, with VyprVPN, the Tomato users are going to enjoy even more with the fantastic app and its features for the whole home network.

Conclusion

So, we have come to the end of our VyprVPN review in which we evaluated the service in terms of its features, protocols, performance, speed, apps, router support, UI and even the logging policy and policy regarding torrenting.

Overall, the service is decent in terms of performance, speed and features, but it still seems a little overpriced, if compared with thye providers of the similar caliber.

Apart from this, the issues in logging policy, no support for anonymous payment options or crypto currencies and the issue regarding torrenting makes it a little off the grid for users who have such specific needs.

We are a little confused to recommend it as it is recommendable for performance and usage, but the logging policy and similar issues related to privacy makes it avoidable.

So, after our VyprVPN review our final word is that it is a good VPN but the privacy focused people should choose another safer option over VyprVPN.
